Conan O'Brien Mom Passes Away Days After Dad Died

Conan O’Brien’s mother died Thursday, three days after his father did, and both of his parents died earlier this week.
Ruth Reardon O’Brien died quietly in December, but Dr. Thomas O’Brien’s health had been deteriorating for a while before his death on Monday, according to the Boston Globe.

As the head of the Infectious Diseases Division at what is now Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Dr. O’Brien was an authority on the study of antibiotic drug resistance. At the age of 90, he eventually retired in 2019 after serving as an associate professor at Harvard as well.
In an interview with the Globe following his father’s passing, O’Brien attributed his love of comedy to Thomas, saying that the hardest laugh he had ever heard was from a Peter Sellers movie called “Pink Panther” that he and his father had seen.

Before focussing on real estate law, Ruth began her career as a legal clerk on the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court. In 1978, she became the second female partner in the history of her law company.
We’ve reached Conan for comment, but he hasn’t officially discussed her passing.

Ruth was introduced to Thomas by her brothers, and the two were married in 1958. Conan was one of their six children, and they were married for 66 years.
Ruth was 92 and Thomas was 95.
